Addess Challenges to Keeping MMDB Updated and Accurate The Molecular Modeling Database (MMDB), Entrez's database of experimental derived 3-dimensional structures, provides links to many databases in Entrez, including Pubmed, Protein, CDD, Pubchem, Taxonomy and so on. Thus, MMDB is an important resource for molecular biologists looking to understand the role of structure in functional annotation. The effectiveness of MMDB as a tool for molecular biologists depends on its information being accurate and updated in a timely fashion. Global changes to the data at the RCSB Protein Data Bank (PDB) from which MMDB is updated and an increase in the number of structures released by the PDB has presented challenges in keeping MMDB accurate and updated. I will discuss what we have done to meet these challenges.
