12/23 TPA Database GenBank is now accepting third party annotation of genomic sequences or computationally derived/assembled sequences. See the TPA Database page for more information.

12/19 PMC in Entrez PubMed Central (PMC) is now available through the Entrez retrieval system. PMC is NLM's digital archive of life sciences journals, developed and managed by the NCBI. Search PubMed Central by choosing "PMC" from the Entrez drop-down menu.

12/08 The NCBI Handbook The NCBI Handbook is now available on the Bookshelf. Written by NCBI staff, the Handbook discusses the many resources available at the NCBI, focusing on usage and advanced technical issues.

12/05 Rat Map Viewer Rat Genome Resource: The rat genome sequenced by the Rat Genome Sequencing Consortium is now available in NCBI's Map Viewer and BLAST.

06/17 CDD joins Entrez CDD, the Conserved Domain Database, is now available through the Entrez retrieval system. CDD is a collection of sequence alignments and profiles representing protein domains conserved in molecular evolution. Search CDD by choosing "Domains" from the Entrez drop-down menu.

06/11 New version of Cn3D A new version of the macromolecular structure viewer is available. Cn3D 4.0 offers improved performance, a new interface, alignment editing, annotation, and high-resolution output.

04/25 Viral Genome RefSeqs View, retrieve, and analyze complete viral and phage genomes on the new Viral Genomes Web site. Entrez Genomes now contains over 1,000 viral reference sequences.

04/08 UniGene includes fly and mosquito Drosophila melanogaster and Anopheles gambiae join the UniGene sequences collection. UniGene is an experimental system for automatically partitioning GenBank and EST sequences into a non-redundant set of gene-oriented clusters.

03/15 Malaria mosquito resource A new Web page dedicated to Anopheles gambiae is available. Access both the original GenBank sequence data as well as the first version of the genome assembly. Also BLAST the A. gambiae genome and browse links to taxonomy information.

03/01 Zebrafish BLAST BLAST Zebrafish mRNA, ESTs, HTGs, Trace, and reference sequences on the Zebrafish Genome BLAST page.

03/01 ProtEST Display the alignment of UniGene sequences with their possible translational products using ProtEST. This tool uses BLASTx to compare UniGene mRNA and EST sequences with protein sequences from eight organisms, recording the best match for each case.

02/08 ModelMaker Use ModelMaker to construct mRNA sequences from genomic data. Select exons identified by alignments of mRNAs and ESTs, edit the combination, test open reading frames and save your result.
