LITERATURE DATABASES

Together, NCBI's literature databases constitute an extended searchable library of the life sciences literature.

Books
In collaboration with authors and publishers, NCBI offers biomedical books and monographs for the Web with links to PubMed as well as to other resources. NCBI-authored resources are available in this database as well such as the NCBI Handbook, Coffee Break, and Genes and Disease.

Journals
Searches the journals indexed in PubMed with links to the records within those journals.

MeSH
Searches NLM's controlled vocabulary used for indexing articles.

NLM Catalog
NLM Catalog provides access to NLM bibliographic data for journals, books, audiovisuals, computer software, electronic resources and other materials. Links to the library's holdings in LocatorPlus, NLM's online public access catalog, are also provided.

OMIA
This database is a catalog of genes, inherited disorders, and traits in animal species other than human and mouse authored by Professor Frank Nicholas of the University of Sydney, Australia.

OMIM
This database is a catalog of human genes and genetic disorders authored and edited by Dr. Victor A. McKusick and his colleagues at Johns Hopkins and elsewhere and developed for the Web by NCBI. While you can still search this database on the NCBI site, the data and OMIM website are currently being hosted at omim.org.

PubMed
A service of the National Library of Medicine that provides access to over 17 million citations from MEDLINE and additional life sciences journals. PubMed includes links to many sites providing full text articles and other related resources.

PubMed Central
PubMed Central is a digital archive of life sciences journal literature, developed and managed by NCBI. With PubMed Central, NCBI is taking the lead in preserving and maintaining open access to the electronic literature.
